Health and Safety Policy for Removals Germany
Removals Germany is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with removal services, including packing, loading, transport, unloading and storage of goods.
Our objective is to prevent accidents, injuries and damage to property by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective control measures across all stages of our removals operations.
Policy Scope and Responsibilities
This policy applies to all personnel engaged in work for Removals Germany, whether on company premises, at customer locations or on the road. It covers local moves, long distance relocations, residential and commercial removals, packing services and any associated handling or storage of goods.
Senior management is responsible for ensuring that adequate resources, systems and supervision are in place to implement this policy. Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for day to day compliance, including briefing teams on safe working methods and monitoring performance. Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions.
All staff are required to follow company procedures, use the equipment provided correctly, report hazards and cooperate fully with health and safety initiatives and training.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Removals Germany carries out regular risk assessments for typical removal tasks and for specific jobs where there are unusual risks, restricted access, heavy items or specialist equipment involved. These assessments identify hazards, evaluate the level of risk and determine the control measures needed to ensure safe working conditions.
Safe systems of work are developed and communicated for all key activities, including manual handling, use of lifting equipment, vehicle loading, working in stairwells and confined spaces, and operating at customer sites. Procedures are reviewed and updated in response to changes in operations, equipment, legislation or after any incident.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of any removal service and is therefore a primary focus of our safety arrangements. Staff receive guidance on correct lifting techniques, team lifting, use of handling aids and recognising when an item is too heavy or awkward to move safely without assistance.
Where appropriate, Removals Germany provides equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, furniture sliders, ramps and lifting straps to reduce the risk of strain injuries and accidents. All equipment is inspected regularly and removed from service if damaged or unsafe. Employees must not misuse equipment or attempt to lift items beyond their capability.
Vehicle Safety and Road Risk
Our vehicles are maintained to a high standard and inspected regularly to ensure they are safe, roadworthy and suitable for the transport of customers possessions. Loads are secured in accordance with safe loading principles to prevent movement, damage or instability during transit.
Drivers are responsible for carrying out daily vehicle checks, reporting defects promptly and adhering to traffic laws and company driving standards. Removals Germany promotes safe driving practices, including consideration for other road users, appropriate speed, safe parking and awareness when manoeuvring in residential streets, city centres and commercial areas.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
When working at customer premises, our teams aim to minimise disruption and maintain safe access routes for occupants and visitors. Floors and stairs are kept as clear as practicable, and protective materials such as floor coverings and corner guards may be used to reduce slip and trip hazards and prevent damage.
Removal activities are planned to avoid unnecessary risks to neighbours, pedestrians and other members of the public. Where necessary, staff will use warning signs, agree safe access routes and coordinate movements to prevent accidents in shared areas, entrances and on pavements.
Training, Information and Supervision
All new employees receive an introduction to the company health and safety standards, with additional job specific training provided for drivers, porters, packers and supervisors. Refresher training is carried out periodically and whenever work methods or equipment change.
Supervisors monitor adherence to safe working procedures on site and provide guidance or corrective action where required. Health and safety information is communicated through briefings, instructions and ongoing dialogue to ensure that staff understand their responsibilities and feel able to raise concerns.
Accident Reporting and Continuous Improvement
Removals Germany requires all accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences to be reported without delay. Incidents are investigated to identify underlying causes and to implement measures that will prevent recurrence.
We use the findings from incident investigations, staff feedback, inspections and audits to improve our health and safety management system. Lessons learned are shared across teams and incorporated into updated procedures, training and planning processes.
Health, Welfare and Fitness for Work
The physical nature of removal work requires attention to health and fitness for work. Employees are encouraged to report any medical conditions, injuries or fatigue that could affect their ability to work safely. Where appropriate, duties may be adjusted to reduce risk.
Removals Germany promotes good housekeeping, provision of rest breaks, access to drinking water and appropriate work clothing, including suitable footwear and any task specific protective equipment. Staff are expected to present themselves fit for duty and free from the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Policy Review and Commitment
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective, relevant and aligned with current best practice in the removals industry. Updates may be made in response to operational changes, new guidance or following consultation with staff.
Removals Germany is committed to continually improving its health and safety performance and to fostering a culture where safe working is an integral part of every move we undertake. By working together, we aim to protect our employees, customers, the public and the property entrusted to our care.
